Discovering House of Bō: A Journey Through Scent

My husband’s reaction to my top pick

Me: Babe, smell this. *shoving my wrist up his nostrils*
Husband: That’s interesting.
Me: That’s interesting good or bad?
Husband: That’s interesting VERY good.

I recently purchased a discovery set from the House of Bō, and I was so blown away that I have to give you all a full review and ranking of the three scents I tried. As someone with a fragrance collection of more than 100 bottles, it takes a lot to wow me, and this fragrance house did just that. Their bottles feature the minimalist style I love, with each scent having a hand-sculpted natural marble stone cap. I ordered the discovery set from their website, which comes with three refillable 10ml spray bottles and gives you a $65 credit towards a full bottle purchase. Girl math: I only spent $11 on each bottle.

3. Rosario

Notes
Top Notes: Pomegranate, Lemon Primofiore, Coriander
Middle Notes: Rose Centifolia, Freesia, White Peony
Base Notes: Ambergris, Vetiver, Incense

I wished this could be my number one because of the beautiful pink color of the cap, but it ranks at number three nonetheless. This is a heavenly take on a fresh rose fragrance. It opens up with a vibrant citrus note before you get the green notes from the florals with the rose note being the loudest. Once it starts to dry down, you get a subtle woodiness in the base notes. It is a pretty rose fragrance and very different from the ones I have.

2. Casa Blanca

Notes
Top Notes: Creamy Minerals, White Tea, Labdanum
Middle Notes: Copal Blanco, Desert Fig, White Suede
Base Notes: Tobacco, White Oud, Vanilla Bourbon

I have to call it number two, but in reality, this is number 1.5. I am most relaxed when I am at home, and this fragrance reminds me of home. I will quote my niece here: “Auntie Fifi’s house is white, like very white.” It reminds me of my ideal living space. It is a calming tea and fig scent with a spiciness from the tobacco and white oud. This is the type of fragrance you wear when you need to feel comforted. While loading my laundry, I could still smell it on the clothes I wore two days prior.

1. Bombon

Note
Top Notes: Lychee, Lily of the Valley, White Saffron
Middle Notes: Pink Pepper, Marshmallow, Bergamot Caramel
Base Notes: White Birch, Aged Cognac, Ambergris

I haven’t had a fragrance make me emotional in a long time until now. Bombon brought back a bunch of good feelings. It immediately transported me to my childhood in Nigeria in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Back then, there weren’t a lot of foreign stores. Watching commercials on Cartoon Network, I would see the latest Barbie or the coolest pair of jeans and dream about them. I was lucky enough to have an aunt, uncle, and sometimes my mum traveling abroad, and they would bring back the exact same item I had seen on TV. The pure joy of receiving those presents is indescribable. Bombon brings me so much joy with the beautiful note of lychee and lily of the valley that combines with marshmallow, caramel, and cognac to create the true definition of a sexy gourmand. The longevity on this is also amazing with the scent lasting about 7-8 hours on me. The moment this comes back in stock, I will be first in line.

If you are looking for a unique fragrance house that clearly pours their heart into their creations, look no further. House of Bō is definitely worth checking out.

House of Bō fragrances can be purchase directly on their website and also from top luxury retailers like Neiman Marcus & Bergdorf Goodman.
